"Who cares if it pours, I'm getting married dammit." And she did to him, the sweetest couple you've ever seen. Summer rain, needle and thread, hiding in the bathroom for an hour, they conquered all of it. Today was their day and they went for it with not only a smile but laughs that you could hear from across the room. They had an absolute blast. Whitney and Nate were surrounded by an incredible group of best friends and close family on Saturday May 21 when they both said "I do" to a life of love together. Whitney and Nate.

A  N e w  M o t h e r

Its so easy to get swept up in the how to's, the what now and the is this normal's? But becoming a new mother is so much more.Its about slowing down, really looking at each other and breathing in all the goodness of motherhood.Having a new baby is a change in the way you see everything.Laundry for example loses all value, the baby's room becomes the only "done" room in a rehabbed house and all the attention circles the smallest person in the room. When Candice first asked me to come to her home to photograph their new son, James I made it clear to her not to straighten up, skip showering if she wanted and to just be comfortable with her new family. Baby James was close to four weeks old and for the most part slept in his mom and dads hands. I stood a good distance away and allowed them the space and time to love on each other. It was clear to see that the three of them were perfectly settled. I spent my time photographing them as new parents. Learning the ways to hold him, waiting to grab the pacifier and just simply watching him. There was no rushing to get out of the house, nothing to cook or clean, just time. There is so much selflessness involved in becoming a parent and I really tried to present that in their photographs. A baby, a new dad and a new mother.

Talk about a dream team of bride and groom. Am I right? Duru and Jake were married in Jakes new work space for Frameshop. The building was incredible and overwhelmingly open but their perfect intimate ceremony sat right in the middle of the floor surrounded by golden lights of hand scattered candles, garden ivy and the warmth of only their closest friends and family. IT WAS MAGIC. Did I mention that she is carrying their first little girl under that beautiful wedding dress. Try photographing that without tears in your eyes. An intimate romantic wedding for this long time couple was an incredibly beautiful thing to watch. Towards the end of my time with them the sun started to set fast. We were losing light so I pushed these two into a closet for the lowest sitting window. I know they thought I was insane but these "closet shots" are my favorite. The warm low lit photos I was so worried about during the ceremony are some of the best shots of the bunch. The way these two are looking for each other and the way the light rests only on them is truly an example of how this night went. Cheers to Duru + Jake.

Well, here I am.  I'm back.  Leave it to a past college professor to gently shove you back into blogging. A few weeks ago I received a couple of emails. One from Chris Smith, a favorite photo professor of mine (the one that started it all) and one from his daughter, Maggie. Each asking me if I would like to photograph Maggie and Sam's engagement and a possible elopement or intimate wedding in the near future. Of course I would!

 The ride through Indiana that morning was lovely to say the least. We had arranged to meet at the top of the hill in the town Aurora, Indiana where Maggie's family is from. On my way there I was pulled to the edge of the river by this massive fog that had swallowed the Aurora boat landing. It was incredible. I pulled over and sent Maggie a message to curve our plans and quickly meet me at the landing. At this point we had never met, I'm almost positive she thought I was completely nuts. She agreed and just as I suspected her and her parents were all there. Camera in Chris's hands. You know, to take pictures of me taking pictures of his daughter and soon to be son in law. Talk about full circle! 

We ended up having such a good time running around both the landing and the historical Veraestau home on the hill.  Maggie and Sam are such a beautiful sincere couple and it was fun to watch them gradually get comfortable with me and the camera. they even hiked some hills with me which is always a bonus in a client. They eventually forgot I was in front of them and I just could not get enough of their love in that light. I cannot wait to photograph their simple, summer, romantic wedding. Whats a better way to jump back into my blog than with the celebration of
